Norwood vs Centrals

Sorry every one I have had to put the side up again due to injuries on the training track tonight.

Our Round 14 clash with a hard hitting & skillful Central District at Elizabeth comes on the back of a poor performance against a more desperate & committed West Adelaide in Round 13.

Every coach & player member of the Norwood Senior & Reserves sides have been put on notice this week by the Norwood board to deliver a far more committed effort in the wake of our very poor performances so far this season.

The line in the sand has been drawn; we now sit and wait for the response?

Tim Weatherald & Dean Terlich return from injury whilst Taylor Walker will play his first game in Norwood colors in season 2009 after being omitted from the Crows. Nick Lower also returns from the Power.

Luke Nitschke has been omitted with Kris Massie, Josh Donohue & Nick Jackman all going out of the team with injuries.

Our second’s side will see both South Australian Sate U18 representatives Mark Evans & Matthew Panos come straight into the side after good performances during the National Championships that were completed in Melbourne yesterday.

Roland Ah Chee has been given the weekend off and will return to the playing arena next week against North Adelaide after some very impressive performances for NT.

Our Reserves team now has Shenton, Harding, Panos, Evans, Georgiou, Anderson, Joel Aish and Michael Rander all playing after starting the 2009 season in the U18 competition.

Provided they maintain good performances you will see more U18 boys be given an opportunity over the next 8 weeks. Names like Roberts, Gorringe, Langford & Jonas along with State U16 representative Mitchell Grigg are all putting plenty of pressure on the players at Reserves level to perform.

Norwood vs West

If we look back to our Round 5 clash against West Adelaide at City Mazda Stadium we can honestly say that it was a game that we needed to win? We should have won? But we somehow managed to let it slip after leading for all bar the last minute of the game. It seemed to be the moment in our season to date that everything took a turn for the worse.

In the return bout on Saturday we will take to the field looking for revenge & with the senior coaches very keen to have a look at some of the young players who have performed well in the Reserves over the past few weeks.

Tim Webber will play his first league game if selected once the 22 man squad is reduced to 21 after training tomorrow night. Brady Dawe & Will Young both come in after playing less than a handful of games each this year. Simon Phillips also returns after missing last week’s poor performance against the Magpies with the flu.

Nick Lower (Power)& Tim Weatherald (hamstring) could not be considered whilst Kenrick Tyrrell & Brendan Littler were omitted.

Please take note that all three grades will play on Saturday Reserves at 11.15am, League at 2.00pm followed by the U18 at 4.45pm.

Legs vs Magpies

After winning a close encounter by the barest of margins against the Panthers last week we find ourselves needing to continue our winning streak as we take strides towards the five.

The Port Magpies have struggled putting four quarters together so far in 2009 but have been more than competitive in every game they have played & will always lift for the traditional rival’s game.

After enduring an incredibly hard couple of weeks off the ground & with the continual speculation of their future being in the balance, you can be guaranteed that Tim Gienever & his men will come out firing on all cylinders when we take to the field at 2.00pm on Saturday.

Nick Lower (Power) & Andy Lee (Family commitments) both return to the side after missing two & one week respectively.

The Reserves will be boosted by the return of hard running Gavin Hughes (concussion) whilst Aaron Kite, Will Young, Jack Juniper, Brady Dawe, Tim Webber& Toby Schulz will all be looking to keep the seniors honest with strong performances themselves when they hit the ground.

Please people! I urge you to not miss this one!

The Magpie army will be out in force!

Where will you be when the first ball is bounced?

Redlegs vs Panthers

We will venture down to Noarlunga this Saturday to take on the Panthers with it being well and truly drilled into our minds that you are only as good as your next game.

Although we found some much needed form and confidence against the Eagles last Saturday we realize that we still have the job well & truly ahead of us after such a poor start to the season.

We desperately need to continuing winning if we are to put any kind of pressure on the top five teams over the remainder of the season.

Kris Massie & Stephen Doyle have both recovered from injuries and have been included into our 23 man squad that will be trimmed back to 21 after training tomorrow night.

Will Young (ankle) & Jamie Vlatko (hamstring) will both resume in the Reserves after missing 2 games each.

A reminder to our supporters that the Reserves will start at 8.45am followed by the U18 game at 11.15am and then the League at 2.00pm.

After match presentations will be held at the Robin Hood Hotel from 6.00pm.

See you at the game.

Legs vs Eagles

As we enter into our Round 10 clash with the Eagles we do so with our backs firmly against the wall.

The Eagles are full of confidence after coming off a good win against the Bulldogs in Round 9, whilst our boys suffered their fifth loss in succession against the double blues in another disappointing performance last Friday evening.

The return of Bryce Campbell from injury will no doubt add some much needed toughness around the contest whilst Kenrick Tyrell, Brady Dawe & Alex Stopp come into our squad of 24 that will be trimmed back to 21 on Friday evening.

Jack Juniper is the only notable omission from last week’s team at this stage.

Duigan & Pfitzner

Can I quickly confirm after the umpires have reviewed the Nick Duigan report from the weekends game against Sturt that the rough conduct charge that Nick was reported for has now been withdrawn and he is free to face the Eagles on Saturday.

I would also like to report that Dylan Pfitzner has decided to hang up the boots after being diagnosed with a blood disorder that gives him problems with blood flow when heavy knocks occur during a game.

Something as simple as a bad corky can cause Dylan many problems in the weeks after the event and he has decided that life after football is something he will now concentrate on.

Dylan did not play a senior game after injuring his back in 2008 and played a handful of Reserves games in 2009.

Dylan will stay involved in the club in another capacity.

Legs v Blues

In what has fast become the most important game of our 2009 campaign so far we take to the field tomorrow evening against the double blues with four changes to the team that went down to Glenelg so poorly a fortnight ago.

Jamie Vlatko (Hamstring) & Will Young (ankle) both have been rule out with injuries whilst Gavin Hughes & Kenrick Tyrell have been sent to the reserves to find some much needed game time & touch.

Aaron Kite, Nick Jackman, Brendan Littler & Josh Donohue have all received an opportunity to cement their place in the senior side after some encouraging reserves performances.

The Sturt supporters will arrive in large numbers tomorrow evening full of convidence after their current winning form and no doubt will be expecting to continue our heartbreaking stretch of losses.

This is once again the time I ask for our supporters to get behind the boys and get along to the game as we desperately need your support.

In return I ask our players to give you all something to cheer about as no doubt you all deserve it.

U16 Premiership

I would like to acknowledge the performance of our U16 team which today won the flag in the competitions inaugural first season.

I congratulate David Oatey and his team of staff & volunteers in their efforts in putting together a hard working, well skilled & talented group of players who have worn the Norwood jumper with great pride.

To the players themselves I say what a fantastic effort & well done. You have performed consistently throughout the season and it's a true credit to each and everyone of you.

We as a club look forward to your continual development over the next couple of years with many of you no doubt being the future of our club.

Final Scores
